Miki Kim is native Hawaiian, reared in Hawai’i. She received an MFA from the University of California, San Diego. Miki has an odd and varied background: from technical writing to eLearning to voiceover work to playwrighting…so many interests…what’s a gal to do?
Instructional Design & Teaching
Miki has been a paralegal, trainer and instructional designer in the legal environment for many, many, many years. She has a passion for translating technical concepts into easily digestible collateral. Miki is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and has had several articles published in Peer to Peer, a legal technology magazine.
Acting
"A Tita, ABroad," a one woman show about moving to the continental United States from Hawai’i, was the recipient of two Los Angeles Dramalogue awards. As an actor, she has worked with theaters such as the Milwaukee Rep and the California Shakespeare Festival. She has studied with the Suzuki Theatre Company in Japan. Miki’s wildest acting credit is Lin Tan Cang, the wife of Braddock (Chuck Norris) in “Braddock: Missing in Action III.”
Writing
On the screenplay front, “Fixing Jane,” was a bridesmaid, but never a bride in several competitions including VisionFest, the Houston Comedy Festival, and the Richmond International Film Festival.
Mik’s play, “After the Fall,” was selected for a staged reading at the Blank Theatre in Hollywood, was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Bay Area Playwright’s Festival, winner of the 2019 Austin Film Festival (plays), and the runner-up for the Barrington Stage Company’s 2020 Burman New Play award. “After the Fall” was nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn prize.
